The Oculus Part I by Brian Berkowitz

Santiago Calatrava, one of my favorite architects, has a portfolio of work that exceeds almost any other. His unique designs mimic nature and often evoke the characteristics of living creatures. Circumstances coalesced into an opportunity to photograph rarely-seen angles of The Oculus while on a commercial commission for the Accuweather at 7 World Trade Center. The Oculus has quickly become a landmark in NYC and it is said it represents a dove, the bird of peace, flying through the air. After shooting from above, it was apparent to me that I needed to complete the collection by photographing the interior and ground-level exterior. This gives the imagery the full breadth of detail and substance and parallels my other work in fine architecture photography.

This genesis series was awarded the Loop Design Award for Fine Art Architecture in 2021 and has subsequently hung in several galleries across New York. In order to allow greater access to this collection, I decided to release individual images, as part of an overall series, as NFT’s so others could digitally own their favorite pieces while retaining the exclusivity of fine art. Anyone who purchases any piece of my art as an NFT will receive that piece as a signed 16x24” print.
