The art of koi breeding goes back to 19th Century Japan, where it was known as koi no hanshoku, or “making orange fish smoosh.” Koi are selected for valuable traits and bred selectively, generating distinctive creatures that express the personality of their owner. Our custom contract updates this process, hatching digital koi from colorful eggs on the Ethereum blockchain.

Of course, all art contains surprise, and there are some BitKoi that are sui generis, wholly unique and thus incredibly valuable. The subtle craft of choosing fish to combine makes this an exclusive, immersive NFT experience. We are excited to bring this tradition to the metaverse, with all its beauty and elegance but none of the impermanence of life or the ickiness of, you know, fish-smooshing.
