Jean-Pierre Rostenne

I wanted to create the portrait of Jean-Pierre Rostenne, a zany and iconic character in the Marolles district in Brussels. The goal is not to draw a comprehensive picture of his blurred personality or to eulogize him. Until recently he owned a maverick bookstore on the corner of "rue Haute". It is impossible to summarize or to retrace his incredible journey. Through our various conversations and meetings, I learned that he was lieutenant in the Belgian Army in 1960 in Congo. He lived in Brazil, Rome, Paris and Switzerland... For a few years now, he’s been creating extraordinary walking sticks built with various objects with which he wanders in "Les Marolles”. He always says: "In Africa, the cane is the link between heaven and earth. In Congo, it is an object of power". His motto is "ALL IS WELL" (“Tout va bien”). Photograph taken in 2015 in his room. I would like to pay tribute to him by immortalizing him in the blockchain, JEAN-PIERRE ROSTENNE (BELGIUM, Brussels 1942-2017)
