Wixarika

The Wixárika are a native Mexican group – inappropriately named Huicholes – who have managed to maintain their cultural identity since pre-Hispanic times. The origin of Wixárika art dates back to ancient times, when the shamans created figures that represented deities and sacred animals. Their inspiration came from rituals that allowed them to raise their minds, cross to the unknown and have a close contact with their divinities. Nierika is the "gift of seeing", accessing the "vision of the ancestral gods". In their art, the Wixaritari imprint their vision of Nierika.

This collection is a tribute to the Wixaritari cosmovision, their culture and art.
